A cup of Awake, created by Ayurvedic physicians, is a natural energy boost because of its powerful blend of herbs. Dilmah is ethical tea, which is a more dignified take of Fair Trade. It means that the people who supply the natural resources have equal opportunity to keep the valorisation of the raw material in their own country. Providing self-determination the people of the former colonies can take stewardship and push their own sustainability agenda. Fair Trade monetizes on the unfair power relations built in the colonial rule. Although it's a step forward, it has no interest in equanimity. That is why Mr. Fernando started Dilmah. To prove what happens when an 'indigenous farmer' is taken seriously and allowed to pack and market his own fully-fledged product. The lucrative links (packaging, brand development and marketing) and the additional employment remain in the country of origin, so that tax is paid on them as well. The entire production process is sustainable, because they have skin in the game for long-term results. The entire country benefits from this. Above all, they are given the dignity of doing good for others. Read an interview with our CEO Dilhan published in 2014.
Throwing a party and want to delight your guests? This sparkling cocktail is called “Dark Rum Crusta”. For this recipe you'll need; 45ml dark rum, 20ml Awake tea syrup, 30ml lemon juice and 20g caster sugar.
Start off with the Awake tea syrup; Add 50gm of sugar to 50ml of boiling water and 2 tea bags of Dilmah Awake and let it soak (stirring every so often). After 5 minutes remove the tea bags and bottle the syrup for any cocktail or mocktail you would like to make.
To create the Dark Rum Crusta, add the Awake syrup to the rum. Start with the lemon, peel around the middle of the lemon and set aside. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze out the lemon juice. Finally, rim the glass with the squeezed half lemon and then roll the rim of the glass around the 20gms of sugar that has been sprinkled onto a plate. Start shaking. Shake the cocktail for 10 seconds with ice and then strain into the glass. Finish with the lemon peel. Ready to serve. See the video or read the complete recipe.
